A Subject you enjoyed studying this semester

Is hard for me to choose a subject that I enjoy all the time because sometimes the subjects are very amazing when I learn a new technique or made new things but others times are so stressful. But I have to choose just one for this blog so my favourite subject is textil. 

In that class we learn to knit with cotton in wooden racks and we make tapestry, we have to knit squares of 10x10 cm with differents techniques. This semester we made nine. Is a slowly activity and I don't feel how the times flies. You have be patient because you waste hours in just one square and sometimes you have to start all over again if the knit is wrong. When I knit many hours I feel back pain and my eyes get tired.

These are some examples of techniques I have learned.

My teacher is Daniela Contreras and she teach me all the techniques and give me advices about how is the best way to knit, she is very meticulous so I try to be too. We had this subject twice days aweek, Tuesday and Thursday at from 14.30 to 18.30 PM

I like this subject because I learn so much all the class, I improve my knit and my patience.

First I must say that sometimes as art students we need to have artistic referents, from our work area or others that inspire us and to expand the notion of uses we can use a material, that's why my favorite website is “This is colossal”

This website I met my first year as a student of arts and has served me a lot, has very interesting articles from artists around the world and from different areas such as photography, design, sculpture, drawing, animation, ceramics and also explore the beauty of the natural world at the intersection of art and science. That's why I like it a lot. I can learn about many things in only one website.

 

In This is colossal also serves as a shop, many artists sell their works there, I hope some day sell a work of mine on that website, if you go to the section "Colossal shop" you can find many works.

The website has several sections for each artistic area, if you go to the top you can see the different areas that you previously named, for example if you want to find artists who work with ceramics go to the ceramic section, you will find many works and artists related to the area.

I usually visit the sections: photography, ceramics, sculpture and miniature. For example yesterday I was searching a referents artist for the ceramics class, now i'm working with miniatures so I went to the "miniature" section and y found this:

It is a kind of magazine of emerging artists around the world. It is a well-known and important website, it has many visits per month. I visit it at least once a week to keep me informed about others artists

My favorite photo

First of all, I must say that most of the pictures I have as a child were taken by my dad. They are my favorite, so it was difficult to choose only one. 

In this photo I’m with my grandfather, my father's dad, lying on the grass watching the stars. I don´t  remember well what we were talking about but I guess he was telling me stories and maybe he was probably singing. I really like this picture because it represents the love I feel for my grandfather and that despite being an adult now, I will always be his little granddaughter.

He is very important to me and he is always there when I need him, he is like my second father. I admire him very much, he is a noble and adventurous man who loves to go out with his horse through the mountains. He is always singing and playing with his dog named Nico, and he has always been a caring grandfather to me and my brothers.

This picture was taken in my house on October 27th, 1996, when I was only three years old.

My favorite piece of Art

My favorite piece of art is "Rain" by Nazar Bilyk, a Ukrainian artist. This piece portrays a blue man made of bronze that is almost 2 meters high. The man has a large drop of water made of glass over his head, covering his face. It is located in the Kiev Fashion Park in the city of Kiev.

I've only seen this piece of art on the internet, but never live, and I don’t remember when was the first time I saw it. I just liked it a lot, first for the blue color and the big drop of water that is very well made and second because what it represents for me.

Like many other pieces of art, they can represent many things. For me this piece represents us as people who inhabit this world without knowing all the answers to all the adventures that come before us.

Finally I like this piece of art, although I have never seen it in person. I hope I can go there one day and take a picture with it.

Happiness

I have often wondered what happiness is. It is true that it seems to be related to good feelings but I also think it must be related to balance and peace.

Happiness for all is different, for some it is in small details and moments, for others in material things. Happiness for all is not the same, for example for an extreme athlete happiness can be in feeling adrenaline, instead for an artist happiness can be in the calm of his workshop, creating some piece.

For me happiness is in the small details, like laughing with the people I love, eating a tasty dish, watching my dogs play, or remembering trips. Sometimes I remember happy moments and I laugh alone, it's very funny

the happiest moment that I remember of this last time was when in a trip I arrived at a destination that was very difficult to arrive, it was an adventure and I made many friends there, I remember with much love that place. Another memory is recently, when I went to the beach with friends, I sat watching the sea while they played different things and I felt happiness and peace, leaving all the problems behind.

My way of giving happiness to others is worrying about details, or letting them know that I am for what they need and even more if they are going through difficult times, or organizing moments to bring together the people I love, my family and friends.

My favorite pieces of technology are three:

My camera,my computer and my cell phone.

I'll talk first about the cell phone, it is a very useful object and today it is difficult to live without it because you disconnect everyone if you don’t have one, it is practical and helps you in many things that did not exist before, such as taking photos, send a mail, look up questions on Google, even tune a musical instrument, sometimes I feel a bit addicted to it and I stress that's why it's in number three of my favorite pieces of technology.

Second is my computer, I think it is a little less stressful than the cell phone because of its size, speed and other functions that it owns. When I was a child, my computers were not very good and my relationship with them was very frustrating and stressful, but now I bought myself a better one and I love it a lot because I can watch movies, edit photos and videos, among other things.

And finally in the first place is my camera, I love it simply because it allows me to capture moments with a good quality, and is its only function, so I just enjoy taking photos and I do not stress with other functions.

My career

To start, when I was a child I love drawing and paiting but my first love was my first camera photos, it was a little and cheap camera so I learned to edit photos in my computer because the colors were not bright, the pictures looks really sads, so I decided to edit them with photoshop, I spend a lot of time learned that and I enjoyed it. Then in my school I was the girl with the camera, I took photos all the day.

Cine and Tv was my other option of career option but finally I decided to study arts because I want to do things withs my hands and another reason is learned many differents things. I'm still taking photos, always.

My experience at university has been entretaining, stressful, enriching and frustrating, I feel many things about that, I learned a lot but I had hard moments too.

Finally I don't sure what is my perfect job in the future, I think I still want to learn more. But I want to work taking photos and traveling.

Hello to everyone, my name is Valentina Cisterna, I'm twenty four years old and I'm from Santiago of Chile.
 My mom is a very sweet woman she's name is Lucía and my father is José, he is a very good person and he loves the music. They met when they were fifteen years old and now they are fifty years old. They have got three children. Me, my brother José Ignacio who is nineteen years old, he loves the music and play the guitar and the bass, my other brother is ten years old, his name is Javier, is very funny guy and loves play games and the music too, he play the drums. I have a pet that I love with all my heart, his name is Ody and is a dachshund dog (hot dog).

 I studied in school in Puente alto called Los Nogales and now I'm studing Visual arts at University of Chile and I'm belong to ceramic workshop and textil, the others semester I was at sculpture and molds workshop, I really enjoyed it.

My hobbie is the photography. I love taking pictures, I made it since I was at the school, now I'm the one of the official photographers of my ex school and they pay me. Other thing that I love is travel and met new places, stay in the nature I feel in peace when I'm traveling and taking photos, I made many friends and I hope to do it again soon.
